Sure My Insight can do 0-60 in 4 seconds if I add that Willie guys Turbo and a big shot of nos and maybe a Rocket Pack or two, But is that right to claim "Insight goes 0-60 in 4 seconds"

You can see this next time I go to Toronto if you want. Maybe not 117MPG, but certainly in the high 90s (assuming good weather). Only change from factory was to set tire pressures to 50 PSI.

___I have a gauge cluster pic of my first > 100 mpg segment on 03/25, my first 105.1 segment on 04/16, my first 112.5 mpg segment on 04/18 with multiple pics of 114’s, 115’s, 116’s and 117.2 mpg throughout the summer and early fall following. My personal favorite was the pic from 10/29 at 108.1 mpg as seen below. It was a fluke 70 degree day this late in the year for Chicago. A nice tail wind and our absolutely last warm day of the year. It was on our garbage RFG winter blend as well! The 102.x mpg run I had the other night in 40 degree temps was a nice one as well but I had a 10 - 15 miler pushing me 2/3 the way home and 102 mpg segments aren’t worth pics anymore All of the pics aren’t very pretty and focused of course but I have them. If you want 7 full size gauge cluster pics of the 09/23 - 117.2 run at 400 + KB each, I can E-Mail to you and you can post it here for all to see once you find a place to host it.

___I see you are backing away from your proclamations? Now it’s an un-modded Insight getting 117 mpg. Just look up Car and Drivers 2000 Insight fuel economy challenge if you want the details on that 121.7 mpg segment performed way back in early 2000. Here is the link for your review:

PS: I don’t have the fastest Insight by far since that is not why I purchased it. I am proud to say I might have the slowest that achieves the highest fuel economy Either way, there are a few other Hypermiling Insight’s that can achieve this kind of fuel economy day in and day out. These belong to Rick Reese, Billy, Chisight, and possibly ElectricTroy although I have only seen ElectricTroy discuss the feats, not perform them so far. The lmpg speaks for itself.

___You can see a few of the finer points in a thread called The Horror the absolute Horror … over at Greenhybrid. I never finished it off as there is still plenty to add in regards to multiple drafting techniques. The Insight is a very poor straight distance or close drafter if you haven’t already figured this out but it is a great traffic side drafter with a sea 18-wheelers whizzing by at 65 mph +. Rabbit and the Hare techniques, and hourly weather forecasting can be added to the list which was not discussed either. Mainly, it is picking out the right Insight to begin with (mine had an 80.x lmpg when I purchased it at 28,421 miles), drive w/ load, pay attention to your surroundings, anticipate everything, and never ever ever ever exceed the speed limits under any conditions. Leave home early instead.

Nothing so exotic as yours. I just drove slow (<55) and held the Instant MPG Bar at or near 100.

Well I can see how some people on these forums are a bit skeptical about how some of you Insighter's on these forums can get up to 100 mpg and over, like xcel. I see why they are skeptical because you can easily fake 100 mpg and over, for example you can get 68 mpg on 1 tank and go and fill up your car while still having 68 mpg, and by adding on to 68 mpg you can then drive it some more and keep filling it up until your mpg read 100, or over, this is assuming that you can reset your mpg gauge. If you do not reset you mpg guage then you can easily fake 100 mpg and over, and say that you got it all on 1 tank, when in reality you got it on 2 or 4, or however many times you filled up to keep adding on to your mpg to reach 100 mpg. Like I said before, "I do not even own a Insight and I beleive that 90 mpg is possible." Although what I have shown above is one way that you can fake it, that is assuming that you can reset your mpg guage, after each tank. The only real way that you can get 1oo mpg is to actually get it on 1 tank and reset your mpg each time you fill up. Plus you can tell how many mpg you are going to get on 1 tank by reseting one of the trip odometers with each tank, so you can calculate from the tank mpg and odometer reading how far your going to get.

Chris doesn't own an Insight, so he doesn't understand. As for the "others", they have already concluded that hybrids are junk, and they won't allow themselves to see the facts. Their brains reject the facts in order to avoid cognitive dissonance.

Look at the pic below. Notice the left has the MPG and the right has the MILES. These two numbers are tied together, so there's no way to "fake it". The driver of this Insight absolutely, positively scored 116.6 mpg over 95.6 miles.

That is just a picture of the display "booting" up when you first turn on an Insight...nothing to do with being fake...they all do that.

The MPG gauge does not automatically reset after filling up. There are 3 different guagues (settings) to use. There is the Lifetime MPG (lmpg) and 2 trip meters (A and B). For me, I reset one of the trip meters after every fill up so I know my MPG for that specific tank of gas.

Chris, Troy is right about the gauges. There are two sets that record mpg. One's the trip meter (there are actually two of these). You can reset either, as I do each time I fill the tank, and they will record miles and mpg from that point. The other's the "lifetime" mpg counter, which can be reset with a little more difficulty.

Now you can fake a high-mpg trip segment with these - just e.g. reset it at the top of 7000 ft Donner Pass, and drive the hundred miles or so to sea-level Sacramento. The question, though, is why so many of the people here would bother. I mean, it's not like someone's giving out prizes, you know

Likewise, even if you discount the few that are getting 90+ mpg, there are many more of us that get in the mid-70s or so, which numbers people on that forum also claimed were... what shall we say? "somewhat exaggerated", maybe?

It does depend a lot on the way you drive. I bought my 2000 5-spd about 18 months ago. Had about 50K miles, and LMPG around 50. I reset it a couple of months later (after I got the manual that said how), and over about 12K miles have averaged a bit over 75 mpg. That is, as I said earlier, without driving particularly slowly (I aim at about the 80th percentile, so that there'll always be someone faster for the cops to pick off ), and in mountains instead of on the flat. So yes, I think if I moved and drove slower, I could join the 90+ club.

About the Life Time Miles Per Gallon.

I am not implying that someone here had done that. It is very easy to fix. Like Chris almost had it:

Just like anybody can have on a good drive (back wind, 5th gear at 35 mph, slow downgrade) of lets say, 100 MPG on a distance of 100 miles (any distance will work);

he then just needs to reset the LMPG prior the drive and do the drive above. At the start of the drive, the LMPG is 0 and at the end of the drive it will be 100 LMPG for whatever is the total miles, 60K for example.

Yeah I can see 90, but I saw this one guy on this site I went to got 134 mpg, now that is BS. If this car can really get up to a 100 mpg than lets see someone put a camera in their car and prove it.
