About 6 months ago, an orange blob appeared at the top of my SOC gauge. It looked like an LCD had exploded. It slowly grew until it covered about 1/3 of the gauge. Then it started climbing (oozing?) up the ASST gauge until it covered about 2/3 of that. It was bright orange, basically the same color as the bars. It slowly receded from the SOC, and then during 1 long drive last week, it "drained" out of the ASST gauge also. Now the only thing left is a few speckles here and there. The gauges themselves seem to work fine. All the bars light up when I turn the key on. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any possible explanations (beyond the usual X-files)? Thanks.

Well your not the first to experience LCD displays failing and leaking. If you search you might to able to turn up a few other cases. Really the only thing you can do is find another display and replace it. I believe Honda sells individual components of the display now, so you might just be able to purchase the lcd display part itself. If you replace the whole gague cluster unit. If you do this the odometer reading is stored here so be careful, you might end up with a true miles unknown title.

Thanks Rick. As long as the gauge appears to be working, I don't think I'll replace it (unless the stuff starts oozing out on my leg). I don't know where it leaked from, since all the bars are lighting up at startup. Thanks for the tip on the Odo.

Hmmmm, I would think you'd loose at least a couple of led's if they were leaking. You can pull the display apart, you just have to drop the steering column then remove the air vent piece. Then you could remove and disassemble the display and see if you could get a better idea of where it's comming from, maybe at least wipe it up and make it look better.
