I just wanted to let you guys know about a great deal Pep Boys is having on Mobil 1 oil. They're selling a calendar for $1.00 (proceeds go to MADD) and inside, there are coupons. One is for buy 3 get 3 free of Mobil 1 oil. I picked up 6 quarts of 0w-20 (they are stocked full :D ) for the Insight and 6 quarts of 5w-30 for the MINI. $60 worth of oil for $30, plus a filter for the Insight for $.50 off.

Having read thru other posts on this topic, I have seen where some stores only require one coupon for no matter how much oil you buy, while other stores require one coupon for each batch of 6 qts.
I was going to call 1-800 pepboys and get a definative answer, BUT did NOT want to give them a heads up in case the stores that were only requiring one coupon were doing it wrong.

Anybody in the Louisville area gone to a store that only requires one coupon reguardless of quantity purchased?

I think it depends on the cashier. The one where I got mine, I had to buy several calendars, but at a buck, it was well worth it. I also used a coupon for $1.00 off on wiper blades.
If you buy something other than 0W20, you can register at mobil1.com and get rewards for each case receipt and upc code you send in. With even one 6qt case, you can get some decent stuff. I went ahead and filled out the rebate form and sent in the 0W20 UPCs so we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the coupon info. I was driving by the same Pep Boys I bought 2 cases of 0W-20 from last week and figured what the heck. I went in and noticed the calendars at the front, picked one up and checked for the coupon, sure enough it was there. I went to find the oil and they still had 4 cases of 0W-20 left so I managed to grab them all holding two under my arms and one in each hand (it was interesting). Also, they did have the new replacment 5W-20 synthetic now in stock.

So they made me buy 4 calendars, but I was more than willing. Basically I just got 24 quarts of synthetic oil for less than $65 so I can't complain.... now does anyone want a free calendar?

I now have 39 quarts on the shelve :)

They don't stock it anymore, and unless a distributor has some, they can't get any more. You just have to luck up and find it on the shelf.
I bought all they had in cases, and will go back just to see if they have the few quarts on the shelf. I really don't think I'll see much of a difference, if any, here in the South.

I already understood that. I was just saying that the Pep Boys near me doesn't have any so I'm out of luck.

I never even got to try synthetics in my Insight. I was hoping to try it and see if my CVT would get more mpg with the 0W-20. I guess I could try the 5W-30 but figure that weight would just make my mpg worse.

Resist,
Well they have a 5W-20 synthetic thats replacing the 0W-20. So if you wanted to try synthetic you could try that and unless you ever drive in extreme cold, there probably won't be any noticable difference. Both would be the same weight once the engine gets warmed up anyways. Did you notice any of that on the shelve? They had some at my local Pep Boys, actually the 0W-20 was burried behind it.

I'm not really interested in 5W-20 synthetic. It would make my mpg less until the engine is warmed up.

I don't know, maybe I could try it though. I live in a snow free part of California, so really cold weather wouldn't be an issue.

I am probally got enough to last to 80-85K and after that I quess it is going to to be the new 5W-20 for me. Here in this big sweatbox (Dallas) I don't think it will make 2 cents worth of difference. If I ever install the turbo mod I will run 5W-30 anyway. Down here if you want to them put 5W-30 oil in your regular car (non-hybrid) they look at you like your crazy even when it is printed right on the oil filler cap!!

So I drop by my local Pep Boys again tonight and discover they have Mobil 1 5w-20. After hearing all the talk about the oil not being much different than the 0w-20, I decided to buy it. I also wanted some Mobil 1 5w-30 oil for another car. They let me use multiple coupons, so I bought 10 calenders and 10 cases of oil.

What a deal I saved $158.70 on the purchase. That's $2.65 a quart!

Only one small discrepancy...I could of swore Mobil 1 was listed on the shelf as around $29 a case. My receipt listed the price per case as $31.74. Unless I wasn't looking at the correct spot on the shelf. This really isn't that big of a deal considering how much money I saved overall. But hey, saving another $20 could get me more oil.

Please no more tales of calendars! Aaaaaaaahhh!

It makes me too depressed since I didn't know about the calendars and got almost 30 quarts at full price weeks ago when I went out assuming it would be gone in a day.

I want to hear stories of people buying it for $14.99 a quart to make me feel better. Even better still, someone please tell me they bought it for $100 a bottle!

Well when we first found out 0W-20 was being discontinued I went out and spent full price on two cases.... although I'm thinking I might be able to return it then rebuy it with the calendar coupon's. Might be something to consider, they do have a 30 day return policy right?

figgy,
If it makes you feel any better, the cheapest price I can find on this oil around here is $4.88 a quart. And there are not many quarts to come by. I've closed out two stores and come up with less than a case. (There are no Pep Boys near me.)
