Spend my weekend just playing around with putting in a permanent Sears garage door opener so I wouldn't have to keep buying those silly little batteries. Also, running off the car's battery makes the signal much stronger :) Although being incased in metal doesn't help.

Pic's of course:

Now I just have to wait for my shoebox sub to get built

What voltage does the opener normally use? Is it a 9 volt battery?

Do you think the extra juice will cause problems later on?

Overall, I think this is a pretty cool mod. My wife's Odyssey has the HomeLink programmable opener that does seem to work much better than the portable ones.

The battery type was a 12v one (radio shack# 23-144) so there's no power issues.

I've done this twice before on a 84 Saab, and a 96 Saturn. :)
