In the spirit of showing off the Insight.
Check out my results of the auto slalom race on Sunday April 25.
It was a cold, windy and very wet rainy day. This is perfect because tires could easily spin while accelerating so horsepower didn't matter that day.
The only thing i've changed in my Insight are the tires.
I'm using 195/55R14 Toyo T1-S ultra high performance summer tires.

Results:
2nd place out of 9 cars in my class by 0.038 seconds (the guy that beat me was using race compound tires)
Tied for 7th place out of 41 cars (this is actual times not PAX times).

I encourage all of you to try an auto slalom race near you.
Cheers.

It was a cold, windy and very wet rainy day.
The great equalizer has triumphed again. :D
I'd have to say these are the best conditions for tracking an Insight.

Or... maybe I'm just biased cos that's all I get here in the rainy NorthWest.

I give rides during the race if anyone wants. Just PM if you are interested and i'll let you know where the next race is in the Toronto area. I'm going racing almost every weekend all summer.

Nice driving Guillermo! I’m so impressed by you guys that take these cars to the track. The perfect response to “Stop driving so slow!” Great class titles!

Way to go Mr. "G". Lets hear it for the little guy.

So what class would I have to race in with the "LITTLE RED ROCKET" [/i]and what would be my competition?

Maybe I can find a local event and give it a try.

Keep up the good work. Maybe I can get by to see you on one of my trips..............................but we are on opposite ends of the USA.

Willie, you and the "Little Red Rocket" would be in one of the modified or prepared classes I'd imagine, although I'd have no idea which one. Given that you've added a turbo to your Insight, you'd probably have to contact someone affiliated with the SCCA Solo II program, either in your region or at the national level, to find out exactly where your car would fit. Who knows what other vehicles you'd be racing against, but I'd have to think you'd be up against some pretty stout cars with some fairly heavy mods of their own. But hey, with the light weight of the Insight, the power of the turbo you've added, with some tire/wheel/suspension tweaks you might just blow 'em all away no matter what class you're in!

I run in my second event this weekend. This time there are 10 or 11 cars signed up in my class, H-stock (HS), so the competition will be a little thicker than last time (I was 4th out of 8 last time I ran back in April). The weather is supposed to be perfect, and I can't wait!

Thanks guys,
The Insight is getting some real respect in the grassroots racing community around here. I've been told i'm turning into a Legend of some sorts.

Guillermo, I'd say you're getting some respect, you're whippin' them, they'd better respect you because now they have to find a way to beat you! Winning an autocross class by over a second (1.4 seconds if I remember the times) is like winning by a lap or two in relative terms. Way to show 'em!

I raced in my second Autocross event on this past Saturday, and finished 6th out of 11 entrants in H-Stock. The course design this time was not as tight, allowing more full throttle time per lap, so I felt a little more disadvantaged given that I'm probably giving up at least 30 to 40 hp compared with most of the other cars in my class. In any case, I improved with every run, with my last run effectively boosting me from 7th to 6th place.

The results can be found here:

http://solo.wdcr-scca.org/results/p2004 ... aaf242175a

The results are preliminary at the moment, I expect the final results to be up in a day or two.

It was a beautiful day, and I had a great time, so I'm pleased!

May 9 Auto-x results

It was a warm sunny day and the course had several straight sections where lack of power put me at a disadvange. But I had a very fun day as always and i'm still developing my vision training.....

Using 1 year old 195/55R14 Toyo T1-s tires.

Results:
B-stock class :7th out of 18 cars.
Overall ranking by actual time: 54th out of 91 cars.

Race #2 of the Ontario Regional Auto Slalom series

Race #2 of the Ontario Regional auto slalom series was in an old WWII airport in Picton Ontario (2.5 hours east of Toronto). It was a warm day and I drove to the event on brand new Race compound tires.
I finally bought Toyo RA1 185/60R13 race tires on used 13" civic VX rims that weight 8lbs each. WOW! what a difference race tires make!

It was a very fast course that allowed me to stay in 2nd gear for more then half the auto slalom course. This is extremely rare because at most auto slalom races I stay in 1st gear most of the time and use 2nd gear for 2 or 3 seconds at a time.

With the help of the R-compound tires I managed to stay very close to the leaders in my class even though it was a fast course. And yes all the top drivers have been using race tires all along.

Results:
3rd place out of 10 cars in HS class.
I was 0.7 seconds behind the winning time in HS.

Update of Ontario Regional standings

As you may recall, I won the 1st Ontario Regional race that took place in the rain by 1.6 seconds. And now with a 3rd place finish only 0.7 seconds away from the leader in H-Stock, I earned a good number of points. So after 2 Ontario Regional races I'm still leading H-stock class in the most important auto slalom race series in Ontario.

Very nice! Now if we could just get a turbo into that car of yours, exhaust or electric powered.

Just had a vision of your competition dissassembling their engines and transmissions trying to figure out how they got beat by a car that gets 100 miles to the gallon.

June 13th Ontario Regional race #4

Fastest course i've ever driven, near the top of 2nd gear!
Lots of long straight sections because it was organized by a corvette club :?

So I got slattered today because I have the most underpowered car in my class (in the slowest class).

I finished 10th out of 12 cars in H-stock

After 4 races in the Ontario Regional race series i'm now in 2nd place in H-stock in my class.
But in reality the top 3 are extemely close in points.
I hope it rains at the next few races
And I hope the courses are tighter without straight sections....
