I am going to check this out this weekend:

Honda 2004 Insight CVT silver automatic with A/C low miles

Been in the market for a used car for a couple weeks now and have checked out a few, so I know the basic drill. If things look okay and it drives well, I'll obviously want to get it inspected too.

Can any 1st gen Insight owners from So Florida recommend a dealer or independent shop that would be familiar with the older insight? Also, anything specific I should have them check? I'll be north of Miami in the Aventura area if anyone can get that specific :)

Do you really want a CVT, or are you considering it just because it is available? The CVT is fine if that's what you want, but it is a very different car from the 5-speed. If you are going to be a mileage fanatic you should hold out for a 5-speed.

I would definitely prefer a manual. However, I'm in a hurry to buy soon because my previous car (a 2nd gen insight) was totaled and I've been driving a rental, which the insurance likely won't pay for much longer.

If anyone knows of a manual for sale in So FL, please let me know! Otherwise, I can settle for the CVT as it would suit my immediate and long-term needs fine, even without the more extreme mpg benefits.

The price indicated OBO....Make an offer less than wanted and see what happens.

And have the battery fail sooner. No thank you. :)

No problem. You can be a battery fanatic while I choose to be an MPG fanatic. They are both Insights so it is all good. And I happen to own one of each.

So, can anyone advise on whether it's better to take it to a dealer to get inspected or an independent shop?

Also, any particular things I should ask the mechanic to look out for?
Unless the independent shop works on early Insights they will probably be no better than the dealers who don't often work on them either.

I'm in the S. Fla area and here are the latest Insights for sale from craigslist,

This one was re-posted today. No real details but is more realistically priced.
2005 HONDA INSIGHT

He started out wanting $6800 for the one you are interested in which IMHO is way high but ..... but the car itself sounds like a better car than the other one.

I'll send you a PM.
