Hello everyone. I've been looking into upgrading my dinky factory headlights to LEDs and of course that means retrofitting projector housings. Now I haven't retrofitted headlights since high school, so I'm not wise to which of the current options are best. I looked at a few threads here but they are nearly 10 years old now and a bunch of dead links have left me still scratching my head.

I'm just curious what kits y'all might've had success with. I'd hate to rip the headlight lenses off just to have something not fit properly or what-have-you.

Specifically I'd love to find a kit that doesn't involve cutting or other permanent modification of the headlight assembly. And it seems there aren't many kits out there that take an H4 bulb. I'm hoping the few that are out there are viable options, as I'd prefer to keep the OEM bulb size for simplicity's sake.

Thank you for any input y'all have to share.

Well, no. To retrofit LEDs all you need to do is install the new LED bulbs. I've done this on two of my Insights, and I really like them.

HIDs are another matter, and you DO need to install projector housings. It is possible to do this without modifying your stock housings.

Thing is I already have the bulbs, and installed now they are far too high and the cut-off line is pretty much a messy blur more than a clean line. It was the same issue when I last did this mod. What LEDs did you go with that weren't an issue? I ordered H4 bulbs from superbrightleds.com as I've had nothing but good experiences with their products.

So adjust your headlights? Are your headlight lenses polished and clear?

I used Alla Lighting H4-S-HCR-HL. Boojum is the one who actually found these.

In this thread, I have some details on my LED Projector install.

In this thread, I extol the virtues of polishing your headlight lenses.

Is the bulb in that kit replaceable? Or are the projector and bulb one and the same?

Regardless, thank you very much! A detailed write up like that was exactly what I was looking for.

Just install LED Phillips, they perform great in our OEM housing.
I run them for couple of years.

You were on the money. Honestly didn't think the light hazing my headlights had could affect the projection of the light so substantially. I took the time this morning to restore them and they're looking good as new. And the cut off line is exactly where it needs to be. Amazing how a bit of oxidation can just throw the light all over the place.

Thank you for the suggestion! You're a life-saver.
