I am just getting used to my used 2001 CVT. Tell me if this is normal. When I go over a rough part of the road, either repaved area where it's been torn up or a pothole or a manhole cover, I get a rattle that seems to come from the right rear wheel area as I go over this. On a straight away road that's smooth I don't have it. Only going over bumps in the road. Is there something under there that gets loose? Or is this just normal with the suspension and the bumps.

Thanks, guys

I sometimes get a sharp *SNAP* from that area while driving along. Could it be the air vent(s) opening or shutting? It's usually not worrisome but it was quite loud (as in scary) today when I had everything opened up to install a shoebox subwoofer.

I had a rattle from the rear on MIZR once after getting him back from service. It was one of the rear skirts had not been correctly "hooked" back on to the clips at the top of the skirt. Also I have had to slightly "tweak" the clips on the skirts after removing them several times. I just push in on the end of the clips and all is well again. You really dont want to lose a skirt as My son lost one on the wifes Insight, $360.00 later it is back on.

It sounds like it is on the outside underneath

really having to do with the wheel, axle area. I was wondering about the shock absorber, really on that side. I notice it more at low speeds--20 mph, going over manhole covers for example than at 40-45 mph cruising on a long stretch. It is particularly noticeable if the left rear wheel goes over a bump and the right doesn't. I plan to take it into the dealer and get it checked, soon. It could be the skirt, I will have to check it, but since it is new to me, hope I can tell. Thanks a lot.

Flora;
Every once in a while I get the rattle you describe. It only happens on a rough section of road and when I turn from my driveway to the main highway.

I finally found that the right passenger seat belt wasn't retracting all the way and the latching (metal) part of the belt was banging on the right side interior of the car. It will sound as if the noise is comeing from the right rear wheel area. Hope this will help.

I was looking for my rattle again. I think it is my gas cap. As I said before, the black part of the cap that is over the white part can be jiggled. I didn't think this was the noise, but tonight I stuck my head in the passenger side while reaching back and jiggling the gas cap and sure enough - it sure sounds like it is coming from the hatch area. It must echo thoughout the gas fill pipe and all. Anyway, I jammed some foam over the top of the cap. We'll see tomorrow if this corrects it.

Does anyone else have a gas cap that is loose? Again, the white part is tight, but the black part that clicks as you turn it tight rattles.

Mine seems to be loose as well, but does their isn't any noticeable rattle. The black part seems to be independent of the white part to some degree. I've never noticed it rattling in the past but I'll have to listen more closely now.

I like the foam idea. I'd be careful to not get gas on it when you fill up your tank. It wouldn't be good if it soaked up any gas that spilled when you removed or inserted the gas pump nozzle.
