Am I really that rough on rear hatch actuators? Or is it a "weak" link? The actuator on MIzr failed recently and I replaced it I had about 80000 on Mizr at that failure. My wife came home last night and said her rear hatch wouldn't open on her insight (2001 CVT). i checked it out and same noise as when Mizr failed so off to dealer this morning and just got a call that yes i was right the actuator had failed and needed to be ordered. I feel after disecting Mizr that hers is the same failure, a small plastic friction ring broke. when it fails you hear the motor run but no release of the latch. the hatch will open with the key in manual mode though. Anyone else suffer from this ailment?

I have heard of one other Insight having this problem. Yours is not the first. I assume an occasional lubrication might help, but then again might not help weak plastic from breaking.

Huh, I'll remember to pick up a spare if I happen to come across one. Though I guess it'll be covered under extended warranty too. One other thing I've heard of, on the 2000 and early 2001 models the gas shocks on the rear hatch were kind of dinky and failed sometimes, especially in the heat. The later cars have a much beefed shock. So if you hatch seems to weaken on it's holding point watch your head.

rear hatch

Yeah, mine quit working last winter, then started working again. It just quit again the other day. I'm going to see if it starts working again when the weather warms up. I pulled the switch out last winter, thinking that might be the problem, but it wasn't.
