Ecky,

Thanks for the order. I will trim them per your request and touch up the cut areas with etching primer and some simi gloss paint. They should ship tomorrow.

Thanks,
Scott

Personal preference. I think the car looks stupid raised up in the back. If you like it that way that's fine. It's your car.

How can you say that it doesn't affect mileage unless you have conducted tests? With so many other factors affecting mileage I think this would be very hard to do.

With the Scott springs, I like the way it changed the steering.

Went out with my set of spring compressors (which I haven't used in years) and found I couldn't get the springs compressed enough to get it out. I only jacked up a corner of the car. Does the axle drop further if you have both corners off the ground? Do I need to unbolt the dampers?
Jack the back of the car up and sit the rear lift supports on jack stands, these are located just in front of the rear wheels under the rockers. Let the rear suspension drop. Unbolt both rear shocks and the axle will drop down enough to Remove the springs by hand without spring compressor. Support the rear axle with a jack to make shock installation easier once the new springs are in place. You may be able to leave the top Mount of the shocks in place and just remove the bottom fasteners.

Got my trimmed springs installed. Took about an hour in icy rain - 50 minutes for getting the car jacked up, tools as needed, and the first side finished, then 10 for the second.

Initial impression: this really is how the car should have shipped from the factory. I'd say the front is still a hair more firm than the rear with the new springs, which isn't bad, but I guess I was expecting it to stiffen up more than it did. It's more like, just on the soft side of "just right". I could probably go a hair stiffer. Body roll is reduced tremendously and since the rear still isn't as firm as the front, it didn't noticeably add any harshness over small irregularities.

LOL, I see comments about cutting the springs to lower the ride height. Nature did that for me in Boston. I put the Matiz springs on four years ago and the left side is already snapped near the top and collapsed slightly. I'm not in a rush to swap them out, I'll give them another year in the lowered configuration and then replace them. I wash my car regularly now with an underbody sprayer, so maybe the new ones will last closer to 10 years.

Yes, the same guy has been selling them for years. He’s also the same guy that has been helping you with your transmission build questions.

I do stock and sell both the springs and rear GAZ shocks.
I usually recommend checking your shocks. If they are not leaking, you can start with the springs. If the shocks appear bad, I recommend both.

I'm in the process of installing the springs and I am a little confused about the bottom of the spring and it fitting into the spring seat at the very bottom.

I attached a picture of the bottom of my spring seat. The 2 red arrows I added in the picture point to the where the metal starts to rise and I assume is the spring seat. The 3rd long red arrow is the direction of the spring.

My question is, how do I line up the end of the spring to this spring seat? Does it need to be lined up perfectly? There is just no way to twist the spring into this seat once the spring is installed so I assume it just had to be within a certain range of this spring seat?

Should I just try and get it within like 1/4" range before the spring seat or something, without going past that where the metal starts to rise? Maybe get it between the spring seat and the round hole?

Thanks for any advice on how to line up this spring seat when there is no way you can twist it into it until it hits this seat.

In the picture below, the two red arrows point to where the metal starts to gradually rise or slope up, I assume I do not want to place the spring on this and place it somewhere before this?
