So, I haven't been taking very good of my car, mainly due to being broke for awhile. I have an early 2000 model JHMZE1372YT000453, not the earliest here, but pretty damn early :)

I had three Recalls fixed, the IMA system replaced, and I'm having the Catalatic Converter replaced on Tuesday.

All I can say is thank gawd I have under 80,000 miles on the vehicle. If not the IMA replacement would have cost over $7000, and the Catalitic Converter would have cost over $550; both including labor. If you have around 65,000 miles and are having ANY battery issues, take your car in ASAP! If I had hit 80,000 miles, I would have sent the car to the scrap yard.

Please tell us more!

What happened? I guess the IMA light came on. But how did the car behave before that? What diagnostic codes were found? What does that bulletin say that you mentioned in the other thread?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks!

Yes, please do tell more about what was going on w/ your car. What were the battery and catalytic converter symptoms? :?:

My insight just had an IMA battery and BCM-MCM replacement at 23K... http://www.insightcentral.net/forum/vie ... php?t=2378 Thankfully Honda was great about honoring the IMA warranty and you are correct, the cost would have been staggering (over $4000 in my case) if it had been otherwise.

BTW, what 3 recalls were done on your 2000? Honda Owner's Link lists ECM and Headlight recalls but I'm not aware of a third one.

I've had my insight just shy of three months, so there is a lot to learn. Thanks for educating us newbies and best wishes for smooth sailing ahead. :D

Our cat(s) failed at 78K miles. We had a P1420 code and Honda took it in and replaced the Cats under warranty. Parts and labor would have come to $3200.00 or so according to the invoice.

FYI:

Majestic lists the NOx converter for $819.55

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/aut ... HAUST+PIPE

For some reason they don't list the primary CAT but it should be comperable and a bit less AFAI remember. So how your invoice totals to over $3,000.00 is a mystery  :!:
There's also a "kit" that includes both CATS, gaskets and hardware. Useful for high salt areas where lots of corrosion will require all the related parts to be replaced anyway.

If your going to be paying any type of repair bill in the future I'd shop somewhere else. Looks like their markup is HUGE.

Which area dealership was it if you don't mind me asking?

HTH! :)

P1420...Nope, don't have one of those (yet). I do have P0420, which points to the other cat.

$3200 is a LOT of money. :( Just to give you an idea, if corrosion is not severe, the cat replacement job is about 1.5-2 hours.

Well, I've becomce a big a$$ liar...... Sorry. I wasn't reading the workorder right, or I cannot read at all.

The code was in fact P0420. We got the "Converter Kit" installed. Parts:

Converter Kit: $1324.87
Exhaust Man ifold Gasket: $3.42
Pre Chamb Gasket: $8.00

Rusty Wallace Honda. Sorry about MY confusion. We also had the headlamp recall done as well as the parking brake recall.

The 3200 that stuck in my head was a mystery..... I'm a zero.

Sorry to put this in another reply the first one was a bit long, thought it may be more apropriate to follow up with a second, rather than editing the other.

After getting the vehicle back from the above work, the heater no longer worked, thankfully it wasn't too cold that week. Per a post about this issue Heater does not blow hot air, I suggested that he check for air in the coolant, initially he thought I had been smoking the crack, but for Insightful Trekker air bubble suggestions, thank you; you were correct.

I appreciate the comprehensive reports on your maintenance. I am sure others will find the DTC codes and corrective actions extremely helpful in the future. I just hope its not me. Have fun, RIck
