Hello! Due to a cross country trip I'm planning for this winter, I'm getting all the little things done I've been meaning to get done for awhile now.
When I first bought my Gen1 CVT and had it inspected, the mechanic said, specifically, that my REAR engine mount was cracked and should be replaced; not dire, but I would likely feel some vibrations in idle.

Now that I'm going to replace it I decided to get under the car before actually ordering the parts. Took a look at the rear mount, and...

I'm no mechanical genius, but it looks fine to me. I suppose either I misheard him or incorrectly assumed the underside mount is the 'rear' mount.

The passenger side mount, on the other hand...

...doesn't seem too happy.

Looking at the passenger mount's surroundings troubles me, though.

...How easy is this to replace yourself? It doesn't look like there's much room to finagle the bolts/ pull the mount/bracket out. Is it easier than it seems or should I have it done by a pro? I'm already heading to Scott sometime (hopefully) soon to install a new IMA battery; gotta get that done and pass emissions before the 8th.
I'll ask him what he thinks, at the very least. I'll likely end up going back sometime after having parts in hand.

I also took a look at the driver's side mount.

In person it looked alright, but after looking at that first photo I headed back out and checked again. There are cracks on the flat rubbery bit next to the bracket, but the circular rubbery bit looks alright, I think, if not just a little dusty.

Lastly, as the title suggests, after getting over the jitters I get before getting under a car for the first time in awhile (I have an aversion to dying prematurely), jack-stands/wood blocks or no, the first thing I noticed was this rubbery ring... thing, able to move freely along the passenger side drive shaft/axle.

S3Y-003 seems to be a typical part prefix for G1 part numbers. What the heck is it? Why is it able to move freely along the length of the shaft, and more importantly, is it SUPPOSED to?

Thanks in advance for reading along and for any help/advice!

I've replaced all 3 mounts, from easiest to hardest: Drivers side easiest, rear center next, hardest is the passenger side mount. On the passenger side you have to support the engine and loosen the anti-skid module and all the brake lines from the clamps. You don't want to remove them from the anti-skid module as that will allow air into the lines. Also remove the AC lines from the clamps on that side so you can move them a bit.

Once everything loosened up you have to lift the anti-skid module and slide the mount bold forward under the module. It is really tight and a pain but can be done. Be careful supporting the engine, use a piece of wood so the jack doesn't damage the oil pan.

The ring on the drive shaft should not free float, it is supposed to be mounted to the shaft in the middle of it. Mine did the same thing, I cut it off as it is soft metal, you won't even know it is gone.

Good luck.

I figured as much with the ring; I'll need to find something I can cut it off with...

Whew~ That sounds like a helluva process. I'll look into finding some guides with detailed pictures and see if I think I can do it myself; sounds sort of risky.
Thanks for the info!

Alright, a couple more pictures, a couple more questions...
I found a single other post concerning the side engine mount.

https://www.insightcentral.net/foru...sues/19809-polyurethane-engine-mounts-22.html

In Davenm's post he mentions unplugging the ABS unit's 25 pin connector. Is that around the orange/red doohicky in the second image titled ABS2? Or would it be unplugged by following the cable harness around the wiper fluid intake on the left of the first image titled ABS?

When it comes to the clips/clamps, in the second image (ABS 2), most of them seem to be the same type as the black clip holding the line with the 'H' cap on it. They seem pretty solid, and I don't want to break anything; is it safe to just carefully pull/pry the lines out of the clips with your fingers and snap them back into place afterwards? I can't see any sort of release otherwise.

Lastly, how many nuts/bolts does the ABS unit have that need to be loosened before it can be lifted a bit? It's kind of hard to see in there to be sure...
If I do decide to try it myself I suppose I'll find out on my own.

I'd like to have a go at it, but still definitely tempted to have someone who knows what they're doing have at it, though :D

I have all three mounts for sale great shape,225 ship
That's definitely a tempting offer; as far as I know I only need the side mount for now; may need the driver's side, too, sometime in the future, though.
On the other hand, I'd like to have a go at replacing them myself. It'd be nice to get all three, for the sake of just doing them all at once, but that'd turn an afternoon project into a day long one.

Let me think it over for awhile and I'll get back to ya in a day or so.
