Is this a vibration or torsion damper? I saw a post about it being a rust trap. I notice the new ones don’t have it. Is it worth having?

Yeah It's just there to help with vibration but It's fine without it. Definitely a rust trap, but it takes a while. If you live in the rust belt, just remove it.

My axle broke in half right at that rust trap on my CVT when I neutral dropped it lol

I cut mine off and didn't notice any difference. The shaft was pretty rusty under it. Hasn't broken yet!

I don't live in the rust belt, but if you ever find the opportunity to get rid of I'd do it. A nice cutoff wheel is a must.
