My '05 red Insight has been accepted into the Seattle Roadster Show, which is an indoor event with all the fancy lights and glitter. It will be held March 3-5 in the Qwest Field Event Center. These are the top of the line hot-rods, many being displayed on a rotating "lazy susan" under bright lights. Mine will be the only non-hotrod. I got a special "waiver" because the show administrator saw my car at some outdoor events last summer, and says there is increased public interest in high efficiency vehicles.

For my display, I have a new piece of 8 x 18 black carpet. On E-Bay I purchased a small (3 feet tall) Texaco gas pump replica. I will jack up the left front of the car, and place this gas pump under the tire, then remove the jack. I am trying to give the appearance of having the dependance of gasoline "under my thumb". My whole display will be behind stands and ropes, and a professionally made sign listing the features and performance of the car.

Anyone in the Seattle area is welcome to stop by and see the car, and chat. I would enjoy meeting everyone! I will be there all weekend, March 3-5.........

Can you post a pic on this site after the show for those of us who can't be there? I'd love to see it!

They are expecting around 52,000 people to attend the show, so my car will get lots of attention! I just hope to give lots of exposure to the idea of fuel efficiency and to promote Insights in general

It would be nice to see you again, Willie, if it works out for you to make the long drive. The long range weather forcast shows some good weather coming...............let's hope.

Billy6,
Good luck with the show! You'll have to share with us how things turn out. Hopefully people are receptive to the unique idea. Any idea if we can vote for "Best of Show" online? :D

Bill, good luck with the show. I'm expecting pictures of your superb finish glistening under the lights (I'm assuming metal halide :?: those are brutal unless your finish is flawless).

Thanks Eric and Rick; yeah, the show set-up is today so I have to leave work early and drive 4 hours to Seattle. Snoqualmie Pass (I-90) has some snow & slush, so the car will get dirty..............so I will need to find a garden hose near downtown Seattle to wash the car off.

I will be sure to take some photos, then post them here. Hopefully some of the 52,000 attendees will be interested in fuel efficiency, not just street rods and roadsters. See ya later on, Bill.......

seattle show

Got back late last night from the Seattle Car Show, so I'll make it brief as I am in a slight "jet lag".
Billy's car was awsome. His vehicle was parked next to a "gas guzzler", NASCAR #9.........What a comparison! The RED EMERALD glisten like the jewel it is. The rear video mirror is a thing of the future, but it would drive me crazy. He did an awsome job of installation.
Billy wasn't there (Sat. AM) so I tried to answer most of the questions from the public untill Billy got there in the PM. Yes there was a lot of interest. His poster board showed most of the specs. of the Insight. They were doubtful of his indicated mpg, but when I explained that is was "his" actual mileage and greatly depends on various factors.

As a comparasion, I explained that if it was driven like the car next to it #9, 50+ mpg was obtainable. Other entrants spent a lot of money on their display. Billy used the simplist form of display to make his point. The Insight sitting on top of a "gas pump" brought a lot of smiles from everyone.
He has done an outstanding job of preperation, display, and explaination of his entry. His vehicle is "surgery clean" glistens like a jewel, and is a credit to his dedication to the Insight. Sorry there weren't any other Insighters there. I had a great time at the show and want to thank Billy for his efforts and display of his car........"GREAT JOB BILLY."

Thanks for the kind words, Willie. And thank you for driving all that way; what a marathon trip! I hope you had a nice stop in Canyonville, OR.

The Seattle show was a success, in the sense that thousands of people saw an example of fuel efficiency. But it wasn't much fun for me, because of the rule stating each car owner must NOT be in his display. They make you stand outside the display if you want to talk to people. I much prefer being able to sit in a lawn chair next to the car, like the summertime shows. But wow, what a high-end event with some amazing hot rods and displays....
