If all that is true, then the Insight is also an inefficient gas sipping dinosaur.

A dedicated track car optimised for one speed around an oval track? For Shell Oil?

They're still doing it. This car is just the ancestor to these (2017 results):

The car they're looking at in the video is probably a lot more aero than it appears. Something is missing from the back because they're working on it. Probably a teardrop profile fairing.

So: Long story short... dedicated "race" cars outcompete street cars by a huge margin at the thing they're designed to do.
