Check out http://www.fuh2.com/

If you read the hate mail link, it confirms the Nethandral mentality of these drivers, threatening to run over us, we can't afford their monsters, numerous childish barbs...just dump these idiotic thugs to fight al-Zarqawi, not the freeways.

Hi Cakely and Delta_Flyer:

___How about these same stickers with the term Californian’s instead of SUV’s on them given that state uses more oil then any other. That and the fact so few are receiving EPA estimates from their automobiles out there for whatever reason?

___The last 2 lengthy trips I took in the 4,500 # 4WD MDX SUV (> 95 miles each way), I received 31.8 and 32.8 mpg respectively. Maybe those tens of thousands of Civic, Corolla, Camry, and Accord drivers on the road at the same moment who were receiving less mpg should just shoot themselves and save the gas for those that know how to drive instead?

___Good Luck

Wayne,
I would like to tell you that when gas hits $$$ a gal then people would learn to drive for efficiency. However the truth is that most people don't or won't try regardless of gas prices. Consider the guy with the will work for food sign but has a fresh pack of cigarettes. It probably occured to him that he could get a meal instead of the smokes but whats the fun in that. Have fun, Rick

P.S. Current tank is setting at 106.6 average. Hoping for a warm Friday drive back.

Hi Rick:

___I was just pointing out the lameness of what was posted above … Here are a few more to save our troops:

Anyone found traveling over 70 mph should have an immediate $150.00 fine assigned.
75 and its 6 months loss of driving privileges.
80 and they don’t ever drive ever again.

Anyone caught warming there automobile up in the drive shall be fined $50.00.
Second Offense, $200.00.
Third Offense, no driving privileges for 2 weeks.

Anyone caught idling there automobile in the parking lot of a store or mall … Same as above.

Truck drivers idling there big rigs for > 10 minutes shall be fined $100.00.
30 minutes, $250.00
1 hour, driving privileges revoked for a month.

Anyone found with less then the OEM rated pressures in their tires will have their tires pressed up by the Trooper and a fee of $25.00 for the service imposed immediately. Caught in this condition twice in 3 months, $50.00. Third offense in a 9 month period, driving privileges revoked for 2 weeks.

___Good Luck on the drive home. It has been a while since I have seen some great numbers myself other then the tail wind assisted fluke 70 degree day 2 weeks ago at 108.1. Most are in the low to mid 90’s now given our temperatures and garbage RFG :(

I wish more people like you drove efficently - my remarks are NOT aimed at you. Everyone here knows I'm talking about people doing work commutes alone in something that seats 4-8 at 80 mph. It seems that being wasteful is their pathetic way of stating their manhood (like at http://www.fuh2.com/mail.php ). The sad thing is these people are driving the price of oil to the point it could lead to a recession or even depression. You can't reason with them, so penalize them for their wasteful and dangerous behavior.

I agree with you, xcel - penalize aggressive driving. My tact would be to have a black box that would record driving habits. Good driving results in lower insurance rates, aggressive driving results in premium insurance rates AND additional taxes.

That is a good list of things that should be fined.

Since many people would just not care and pay the fine for a lot of them, you could take all the fine money and then use it to 'reimburse' them when you take away their guzzler and replace it with a replacement small car. Then they could not complain and they would have some cash in their pocket to boot!

You could also have all toll roads collect $100 from each guzzler and then hand $95 dollars to the Insight drivers behind them...

...and BTW, charging more for driving faster in something bigger is not socialist, but just doing business? Don't we get charged more when we use something (i.e. highways) more?

Hrmm. I saw the last picture on a poster at a guys house about two weeks ago, but he had more of them, some in more bumper sticker friendly dimensions. I never thought to ask about where he got them though.

I don't personally believe that giving fines for inefficient cars or for driving fast, or for having poorly inflated tires is a particularly reasonable solution. From our point of view it seems perfectly reasonable - but if we were going to enforce driving standards so strongly we could end up with undesirable levies, like a fine for coasting or gentle braking to maximize regen, which could theoretically contribute to traffic congestion.

Hi Foxpaw:

___I brought up the fines aspect in jest … Given the topic at hand and the fact I own an SUV that does very well in the mileage department thank you, I wanted to make sure not all SUV’s were painted with the same brush. So many others are driving whatever they own “like they stole it” so to speak and are receiving far less in many cases. With that, there are Ricers in hopped up Civic’s, Mazda 3’s, and even PZEV based Focus’ receiving less fuel economy then the Monster SUV’s you and I see and drive on a daily basis. Take a read of the Focus Duratec - PZEV forums over at Focus Fanatics. I know of just 2 guys receiving > 30 mpg from the Focus PZEV (25/33 City/Highway). Most are reporting they receive in the low 20’s and it is almost irresponsible to think of that clean an automobile receiving so much lower then EPA estimates when I myself am driving a Ford Ranger XLT with the same ICE minus the SULEV/PZEV HW and balance shafts (24/29 City/Highway) yet receive in the high 30’s in Chicago’s very cool fall temperatures as of late.

This thread is pretty obviously off-topic for "General Discussion." Also, please remember (from the main forum page): "Please keep the discussion ON-TOPIC and remember to be diplomatic in your wording. We would prefer that the forum be a place for showing off our cars, not bashing other ones.)"

(emphasis added by me)

Locking.
