Hello all,
Discussions of improving beyond the RE92 got me thinking. Anyone have an idea of or means to test the pros and cons of running two yellows in the back? Would there be significant tradeoffs between standard or taller tire? Considering their width and weight, I hope it would be a simple way for MPG gains.

I know all about it. They only last about 2000 miles. If you run them at 60 pounds pressure you lose mileage. I run them at 100 psi have run them at 130 psi. They are so much lighter than the full-size tire it's a big plus but they don't last long. They're also 1 inch shorter than a regular tire. I have RE 92's on yellow donut upfront temporary tires on yellow donut on rear.

it is sheer joy and happiness to have 4 temporary tires on yellow squares as long as it lasts. Since the rear are 1 inch shorter I took the liberty of cutting the front springs one round and a half to make the car stay on level. If the back of your car is 1 inch shorter you're catching more air on the underbelly . It's not worth doing but it's a lot of fun when you do. I had to buy six cars to get that many spares ?

Also your car drops too fast on the back hatch car is designed to run on level .

I also took off the front brake rotors to reduce rotation Mass got no increase in mileage.but the rubber tires make a huge difference their further from the center of spin.

I love the smell of aluminum in the morning

That’s more info than i expected. They look neat, especially with the continuous stripe. Part of why i wanted it to work. I was hoping this idea could last for some time if only done on the rears with less load. Still sounds good for sliding about at least.

You’re either very acquainted with regen or just really ballsy to do without front brakes!

if temporary tires are a time bomb either way, maybe having just the lighter wheels on regular tires would help rotational inertia? I just want to be sure that every configuration has been tried. My own yellow donut has a regular-size RE92 on it so I wasn’t far from testing this out myself. Thanks for all the info though!

Hm, so was mileage worse when just on the rears? I figure shorter fronts also affect mileage by way of final drive ratio.
An even worse ride would be reason enough for me to stay away from temporary TIRES, but spare wheels there might still be viable.

I love the temporary tires -they weight less. When they're on the front your car accelerates faster. But 60 PSI it's like a flat tire for the temporary . 90 psi is the least I would run them. But for my experiences with them. The only thing that makes any difference is the rubber tires. I'm 16 pounds less weight going yellow and 15 pounds less no brake rotors. And I can tell no difference in acceleration or mileage. But change the tires it's a big deal .The only reason I have big tires upfront is just to prove the mileage I am getting on my dash.

Like Yoda said (((there is another)))

The picture below is what I would love to do next. it's aluminum 4 inches wide 17 inch tire made by Acura or Honda . I think it is 25 1/4 diameter the RE 92 it's 22 1/2. It would be like having a six gear.

if only I had been better looking or smarter or born into a richer family if if if ?
