Hello Everyone,
I just bought my first G1 Honda 2001 Insight. It needs new tires and I am torn. I hear in some places that the Bridgestone RE92s are the only way to go, but Eccomodder states that the only 14" tires to buy are the Bridgestone/Firestone B381 P185/70R14s.

Now this are 185s not 165s but I am assuming they would fit and they would have more rubber but lower LRR.

Honestly only getting 45 mpg and have a lot to learn, but figured I might as well start out right. Looks like I will have to order either special since I cannot find either in the Madison WI area.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I scanned around Tirerack for those, I found 185-65-14s, no 185-70s. The specs say they're 16 lbs, 886 revs per mile vs. 13 lbs, 926 revs per mile for the 165-65-14 RE92s. Based on the weight difference and larger circumference alone, I'd stick with the RE92s. You'd probably have problems with those B381s - assist a little more eager, sluggish off the line, probably a big hit to mpg, etc...

Welcome to the club!

Hope you are enjoying your car so far. As stated above, Potenza RE92s are the MPG king! But some folks don't care for the ride quality.

I recommend you test drive a car or two if you can with the RE92s. If you drive a bunch of miles a year, the RE92s are def worth it. If you only put on a few thousand miles a year, perhaps going with a more comfortable ride is a better choice for your taste. It comes down to MPG trade off.

And be sure to mark your calendar for: http://www.insightcentral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=67169 Be there! If you need a doctor's note, or other alibi, we can discuss. :)

Congrats again, looking forward to meeting you later this summer.
