Hi,
I have a manual Honda Insight, 2000. It starts fine when the engine is cold. Starts right up. When the engine gets warm, it may or may not start (usually will not). I replaced the small battery as it was near the end of its life. Now, to add to the description, if I punch the brakes and clutch at the same time I turn the key, the car will start (warm).
I'm thinking there is some kind of sensor or switch that is malfunctioning. The check engine light did come on once and maintenance required. I have the big shop manual but no Honda code reader.

Well, you do have to hold the clutch in to start - so might be worth checking the clutch switch, make sure it's up to snuff. Maybe cold vs. warm temps make or break whatever aberrant condition might exist at that switch? Maybe 'punching' the brake pedal at the same time and having the car start is some kind of a fluke - where the jolt just happens to tweak a faulty connection or something at the clutch switch?
