I don't know about Insights exported to the UK, but the following is basically how the clock works in US Insights, perhaps it will be of help:
The Insight's digital clock is incorporated with the radio, and the time display is the default mode unless you have just pushed a button for operation of the radio, cassette, or the optional CD; in which case the display refers to the equipment you have used, and then reverts back to the time display after about 5 seconds.
If an error occurs while operating the CD, instead of displaying the time, a CD error code appears on the display and will not switch to time until the error is corrected. Hope this helps.
