Hello,

I have a problem with my Insight which I thought I had fixed, but it came back. I took it to the dealer for the problem. Seems like if there isn't an idiot light lit up they don't know where to start. Anyways, I have a fluctuating surge around 75 mph, the tach bounces 500 rpm down and up. I have to let off the throttle to get it going right. I ended up changing the air filter and the problem went away, temporarily. Its back now. Anyone have an idea whats going on? Thanks

Could be many things. There have been some members with EGR valve issues which cause surging, though it's generally at lower speeds. If you have a CVT it may be an issue with the transmission (has the fluid been changed?). Could also potentially be something to do with the ignition components.

I'd agree with Rick, EGR sounds the most suspect, but the transmission fluid can also cause come headache's if it is not maintained properly. If you want a fellow insighter to help check it out I am in Gilbert just off of I-20. I would be glad to help you in finding the problem.

surging

Great response Jason,
We need more Insighters volunteering to help with any possible problems with other Insighters who "live" near by.
It must be a CVT, then I would definately suspect the trans. fluid. The "belt" is hunting for the right rpm. (What rpm-2500? are you running when the surging starts?)

you did not indicate if you have a CVT, but if you do, we've been discussing this exact problem under "new tranny, new egr, ... still herky jerky", further below on the topics here.

In that other thread, four CVT owners report exactly this issue; fluid/EGR/grounding fixes don't seem to relate, and some guessed that it might be engine, not CVT, controls related.

I found that premium fuel, on one trip, instead of regular, seemed to push the 75mph 500rpm-jerk point up to low 90's mph.
