I don't know how much is left but I keep going until there are no more bars left. In fact I go for quite a few miles after the last bar goes out.

I keep trip A as my tank trip meter.
So to figure out how far I can drive, I multiply the tank's mpg by 10 and this gives me how many miles I can go. (I use 10 since the tank is about 10 gallons.)

Example: If I'm getting 77.5 mpg on the current tank, I can drive at least 775 miles. (77.5 x 10=775)

This rule of thumb has never failed me in the nearly three years I have owned the car.

Your mileage may vary.

Just after the last bar disappeared from the gas gage, I filled up with 9.957 US gallons after 762.4miles. Strangely, the hand-calculated mpg - 76.5 was higher than the trip computer - 74.9mpg. :?:

Had a three gallon can in back - just in case.

I thought Wayne (xcel) once said he burned thiirteen gallons in an Insight once - anyone know?

I routinely put in 12 gallons and in my last tank, I put in a record (for me) 12.5 gallons @ 1223 miles. I always fill the filler neck all the way to the brim, and on this tank, I drove about 70 miles or so after the last bar went out. That should mean you have at least 3/4 of a gallon of gas after the last bar goes out. Assuming all Insights are the same, of course.
