tired of leaving your gas cap behind? how about this:

a short length of beaded chain and a small screw to hold it to the center of the cap. then just hook the chain on the whateveritis on the filler door.

hard to leave it behind now! 8)

yeah, the gas station lobby is very strong in NJ. or the law-makers think their "subjects" are too stupid to pump their own gas. either way, i'm glad i dont live there. the only time anybody else but me touches my cars is for state inspection.

The UK Insights have a plastic moulded lanyard that does this job.

Although it is just short enough to prevent the cap from sitting in it's holder on the filler flap whilst refuelling, & just long enough that when the cap comes out of said holder it can bash the paintwork. :(

Always find I end up balancing mine in the gap whilst filling.

The Australian models also have a plastic lanyard to prevent cap loss. But also have a second short lanyard with a bead on the end. There is a little holder for the bead at the bottom of the filler cover so that the cap dangles down below the filler cover. The long lanyard is quite long enough for this to work. Quite nifty really.

I bought a plastic one on ebay and put it on mine (small screw into the top of the gas cap) works great. I just let it hang down while I'm gassing up, since the little holder on the back of the door doesn't work well (I have never been able to get the gass cap to stay there, which drove me nuts!) :)

gator: thats where i got the basic idea from! so i started scrounging through the parts collection and came up with the chain.

resist: that would be way too easy! ;) and would look silly as a posted picture.

most of the pumps around here have a latch to keep them running. i use that and look over the rest of the car while the gas is pumping. clean the windows, check under the hood, etc. so far, going back to 1978, i have lost 2 caps, and dropped one, which cracked in half. that one, for my jeep, i rebuilt out of aluminum:

now if i drop it, i just hope it misses my foot!

3 years ago I saw a post by Robert schaffrath 7/5/03 He added a cap holder to his car (with photo) and it has worked very well for me since.
Honda Part#74423-SP0-000 "It requires a little modification and some heavy duty double side foam tape"
Sorry, couldn't figure out how to bring link forward. Just use "Cap" in search to see photo.

PS: Resist was holding his 3 years ago. At least he is consistent.

My 2006 MT came with a plastic lanyard. I am surprized to hear the older models did not have one.
I guess Honda fixed that problem for the last year of production. I have seen posting indicating that Honda loses $ on every Insight sold.
Could it be the lanyard finally put the Insight over the edge? Sorry, not really funny. I am devastated to see Honda stop Insight production.

Sorry... but... EVERY Single YEAR.... all the way back to 2001 ... People have said that this was the last year for the insight ... That honda is going to stop production....

Sorry .... but with over 5 years of every year those reports always being wrong .... I am now at the point that I am happy they are still producing the Insight .... and I think they are going to keep producing the Insight... I am going to keep on thinking they are going to produce the Insight until January comes with no new model year Insight ..... At this point.... Someone could link to a Honda Site that said the Insight was getting scraped and I still wouldn't beleive it.....

So with personal certainty I say They will continue to make Honda Insights .... And Until January Comes with Insight production actually stoped , I won't beleive ANY Reports to the contrary ....

People can only cry wolf so many times.... And 5 years is it for me.
