Hello All,

I have now had my car for a week and a day and have used 1/2 a tank of petrol (380 miles). With petrol prices here in the UK approaching £4.50 a UK gallon (4.54L)... I feel I bought an Insight just at the right time.

How many UK Insight owners are on here?

I am interested in getting good component 170cm speakers for the doors HiFi shop recommended JL Audio...

Any threads links which discuss this?

I'm an automotive engineer so am pretty up to speed on how these cars work as we had one in my last place of work as a benchmark vehicle...

Hi John

Congratulations on your purchase! Looks like you have the knack of getting good MPG already. There are about twenty-five UK Insight owners registered to this website; we managed to get twelve of them to a Honda Insight Owners Day in 2005 (but only five of them to this year's event...on a World Cup day)

My stereo guy installed 'Focal' speakers which I would recommend - they sounded much better than the previous after-market Pioneers.

Out of curiosity (and you don't have to answer all the questions!) which Insight did you get - UK or Japanese? Where from? How much etc? and which company do you work for....

Hi John,

Congratulations on your Insight purchase. They are like Rocking horse droppings in the UK.

I've had mine for a few years now and I dont think I'm ever going to get rid of it.

I cant help you with the speakers, but others on this forum have done all sorts to their cars.

Enjoy

Chris.

Welcome to an very exclusive club.

John,

Welcome to our club :)

I agree you have bought at just the right time!

Was yours the one on e-bay the other day?

Red 5 spd manual low mileage. Looked nice. I did try e-mailing you via e-bay as the winning bidder but it would not let me :(

I drive pretty slowly and find it very difficult to get less than 90mpg!

Citrus yellow is showing 98mpg for last 1500 miles.
Wifes blue one is about 90mpg, but she does lots of short journeys.

If we can help don't hestitate to ask, search the forum and you will find almost everything you want to know.

Regards

Peter

Yes Lucki-John is my ebay name... ;-)

Hi all,

Thanks for the welcome...

Yes Peter... For those interested here is the advert...
Previous owners were a Honda enthusiat in Cambridge, then an 80 year gentleman somewhere... I have all their details in the folder...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

Not sure if all the pictures will work (I down loaded them before the advert got removed...)

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... /ee8-1.jpg

Yes it has A/C and is mint with low miles 19k...

I work in Essex for a large car manufacturer, used to work for Visteon where the Insight was... That should be enough clues... I drove an insight before ~3 years ago and knew at 60mph it could do great mileage...

I paid a reasonable sum for the car just under the buy it now price but with it being manual and with climate and condition I was not too bothered... I have an '05 mk1 Focus TDCi which I was getting 47-50 MPG driving it normally... If I drove like a grandad I got 50mpg... If I drive like that in thje insight I get 100mpg :)

On my test drive of ~5 miles I got 81mpg average on the FCD so knew it would save me fuel... That included two WOT accels in 2 gear up to 50-60 mph!

I am an air induction engineer and specialise in acoustics / NVH. I plan to do at least the warm air mod...

Other mods worth doing would be greatly appreciated... Maybe the fuel here is better for good mpg... Recent talks of £1.20 per litre fuel costs make me glad I have the Insight... especially as the replacement Honda does seem to be a 4 seater bloater...

Most of my miles is commuting on my own so I do not need 2 extra seats... I know Smart are working on an EV (UK Motorshow) and a hybrid is in the pipeline... Hybrid diesels will be the next thing... then hopefully plug-in hybrid- diesels...

posted in wrong section maybe?

Should this be in General? I'd prefer a moderator to move it if possible...

I check eBay everyday for Insights and your one popped up while I was away. Damn. You got a good deal with it being UK spec, red and low mileage. I would have beaten you to it if I had been at home... Congratulations!

Glad to hear you are an engineer by trade, it is always useful to have mechanically knowledgable Insight Owners on hand (I'm not). Check out the topics in the modifications section for more ideas.

I have edited your photo link (photo is too large, check forum rules) and I will move this to General Discussion as requested.

I just want to mention that the MPG ratings here are in Imperial, (before some reader has a heart attack.)

At the prices you are paying for fuel I'd think everyone in the UK would want an Insight. :D
