Hi wonder if anyone can help I bought a Honda Insight 2010 in the UK. It has a musky smell so I have been searching where it could have come from. I spoke to someone who told me it could have been when the seats were valeted and washed through but this is bull. The reason I say this is because I have cleaned up any water and it is slowly coming back the effected areas are as follows. the boot (originally had a bucket full of water, the back left passenger footwell and under the back seats. I am thinking how can water get to all places when its not been raining. Trying to think logically I think it must come under the back seat cushions because from there i guess it can travel to the boot and to the footwell. I am really not sure unless its the aircon which I have not been using. What is inside those wires and what is under the back seats that could produce water if at all possible. Its been quite dry here in the past week so really not sure where it could come from if anyone know please let me know appreciate any help!

So get in the car close all the doors and have someone go over all the sunroof, doors, and hatch with a hose while you watch and listen for water coming in

I will try that thank you but because it has not been raining and there are areas that were wet and i dried it and now they are wet again I wondered if there are any parts in the car running to the back that could leak at all? It just seems like a very strange place under the back seats to be damp?

Only if you washed your car or the ac line was plugged but that would soak the front carpet can’t think of anything else you have to follow the logical choice

Thanks garry and Xspeedracer. I have not had a chance to get to have a soak with a lockdown for the virus at the moment. The main areas seems to be under the passenger back seat and the floor. I took away the panels by the aircon vents but it looked dry it was mainly under the seat and the footwell on the same side the rubber looks ok there could there be anything else where it could come in. I have put a load of baking soda around those area not only to try and take some of the musky smell away but so I can see perhaps where the damp is coming from. You would think after a few weeks of no rain in fact it has been sunny where I am in the UK that it would have dried by now? If the car was hit in the back again where would that make it come in?

All rubbers need to be checked around boot, lights, door, etc, aerial ,on an old Renault I had it was the heater matrix but obviously if u have heat that's out, also there's guttering underside of doors for leaving water out, they get clogged up with muck etc, clear with a screwdriver
