Thank you! That was a well written article, with some subtle humour, that should be of interest to wanabee hypermilers. :D

That article has been posted at a number of places, with many people endorsing what Wayne is doing, but others riping hypermiling as dangerous. Tried to tell the detractors that us hypermilers would be very pleased if the general public just did a few of the things Wayne did - it would still save a lot of automotive wear-and-tear and gas if people only went 5mph over the limit, moderated braking, lane changes, and acceleration.

I just try to imagine I'm on a Jet Ski and I don't want to get wet.

There are hypermilers and then there is xcel. ;)

I for one sleep better at night knowing Wayne is at the controls of a nuclear power plant. His ability to focus and succeed at complex tasks is well evident in his ultimate MPG abilities.

I am also glad he lives in Chicagoland and I'll probably never have to follow behind him. :p

Wayne's accomplishments will be my inspiration now as I drive my Insight.
I have a lmpg of 55 with 6500 miles on the odometer.
Although I will never drive quite like Wayne (I'm too chicken to "draft" and I like my creature comforts), my goal is to reach a lmpg of 60 by 2008.

... tires squeeling as he takes a 25 mpg turn at 50...
That's just nuts. Besides the obvious flaw with taking a sharp turn so quickly...... it also tears-up your tires & that's going to cost you money out of your pocket. ------ I like to get high MPG too, but I also like to protect my car so I don't have to shell-out big repair & replacement costs down the road.

BTW it says Wayne bought an Accord. Is that the hybrid version, or the plain-jane 4 cylinder version?

.......I let Wayne borrow my 2005 Insight for that contest in Wisconsin ( I drove it there from Seattle, and got 92.3 mpg) but this year at Hybridfest, I will run the competition myself and see if I can beat him!

Eric Powers, who organizes the event, is changing the course this year to make it longer and more challenging. Should be fun!
