September 18 2006, 10:55pm. I was driving around 60-65mph on the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles and boom! I was knocked unconscious for a sec flying around in the freeway spinning around! A drunk driver, who I'm guessing was going over 100mph rear ended me on the freeway. He was uninsured, and driving under a suspended license! He was arrested and put in jail on a 100k bail! He was bailed out two days later. Well, I am grateful to be alive. I spent 3 hours in the emergency room and was pretty stubborn that I would make it alive and walked away. I got my bill yesterday for the emergency room. guess how much ? only $25,000. The price of a new insight! Bye bye insight, rest in peace.
Look at the pics on my weblog

Glad you're okay, and here's to the safety of the Insight!

On a side note, this really ticks me off. It's no wonder insurance rates are so high! This freaking guy has no insurance and a suspended license... hmm how much you wanna bet he's been convicted of DUI before??? These guys need to be locked up or have their right foot amputated or something.

hyesetrak,

We are glad you are back in one piece. Spinning out at 60mph to put it mildly has to be surreal (did that once after idiotically yanking the steering wheel from a "gansta lean" - stupid of me).

Your Insight did well taking the beating from this barbarian. I hate the way our justice system allows such people to get off so easily

Thanks for sharing those pictures.

It's really sad that you should have to pay anything for this drunk's foolishness, but as my father used to say, "any landing is a good one if you can walk away from it".

Around here we call a guy like that - LUCKY!

Hopefully there will be no long term physical after effects; memory wise you'll probably take that incident to your grave with you.

As for the drunk, that he could and did manage bail so quickly, that is something you might want to consult with legal counsel about. I suggest this as I for one have no time for drunks, let alone drunk drivers and when the opportunity arises to "make them pay" for their contempt of other's lives - do it! That he has to forfeit his license and may lose his job as a result - to bad!

Now off my "soap box."

omg, i am so glad you walked away.

One of the most common questions people ask me is about the safety of the Insight. I was impressed by the crash test ratings i found on the gov't websites that were linked last year here.

So what are you gonna drive next? 8)

Where's my message I posted yesterday?

(shrug)

I hope your state has an 'uninsured driver program' (like my state Maryland) to reimburse your for the cost of your destroyed car & your hospital bills.
