I have a 2003 with 235K. Both the check engine light and the IMA light are on. The shop tells me that I need a battery control module and a new battery. There is no charging on that display and the battery charge display is slowly going down - maybe 4 bars left. If the battery discharges completely will the car still run?

Probably. It does in most cases. You need to know what your error codes are. In most cases, you don't need a new control module.

You can "BLINK" the codes via a paperclip and this method (you'll have to fix the link - new users can't see links):

99mpg dot com slash categories/insight/readingtheblinkcod/

Count out the blinks on the Check Engine Light and count out the blinks on the IMA light. Report them both.
