I'm looking for an Insight;
is a 2004 or 2005 Insight have things the 2000 - 2001 does not? I know CVT is arecent option, and the CD player is standard in some year, but I can't seem to find a list of what features appeared in what years.

Anybody know?

Thanks...

Hi lmorris and welcome to the forum :!:

Other than the CVT option and cosmetic changes a primary benefit of an 03 or later will be that the updated MCM & BCM will have been factory installed. These computers are what "control" the IMA system and battery. Apparently Honda decided that there was enough room for better IMA battery managment that they have manufactured "better" parts. The concept being to help the IMA batteries last longer.

So far Honda has been pretty good about goodwill extension of the IMA system, but the IMA pack will cost you about $2,100 and the controllers about $1,000 each outside of warranty. AFAK remember haven't read of any goodwill warranty extension past 100K miles though.

HTH! :)

2000 - 2003 is the greay interior, 2004 - 2005 is the beige interior. 2004's and later have the CD player in the dash also compared to the casette player on earlier models. 2000's were 5 speed only as were early 01's. They introduced the CVT about half way throguh the 01 model year.

One of the many things I liked about the Insight was that I could buy the lesser expensive 2000 year car and not really have to worry about parts availability of a 6 year old model. Almost everything is the same as the 2005's.

The only differences I know of are the CVT in 2001, the CD player in place of the cassette player, and an interior color change from gray to beige. Since my car (like most out there it seems) is silver, I think the gray interior is more appropriate anyway.

Just as a reminder to members:

The Buy / Sell forum is the place to post such inquiries. As an advantage it moves a bit slower so your post will tend to stay on page 1 (and be more visible) longer.

Please review the rules before posting:

As small as IC is vs. eBay and other car sales sites you'd be wise to cast a bigger net if your serious about purchasing.

Right now we have 3 advertised as for sale in the Buy / Sell forum, although the red one in Atlanta *might* require a premimum price beyond what your willing to pay.
You'll have to "take it to email" to find out :!: ;) :)

Newer Insights

I had a '00 and have a '04 and '05. Interior color changes are really just a name change, color looks about the same. They did do something to the suspension as the newer ones don't lean as much in turns, no question about that. The '05 has a more elaborate PCV valve. '05 radiator is unpainted. Since '03 they did do something to improve IMA management. Few, or no, issues with recalibrations. If I'm leaning on the assist, management will reduce assist at about 2/3 bars on both cars. No more dropping to 2 or no bars and rechargeing. Newer ones have CD players. The access for OBD was changed to drivers side. That's about all I can think of at the moment. Other than that, I think, their all about the same. Jack

What are you talking about? The went from grey to beige. They also switched to super suede for the seat side bolster material as well as on the doors. Those are pretty significant changes.

The interior is essentially the same yeah, but they changed the color and some of the material in 04. On the 2000 - 2003 it's grey fabric on the bolsters and the black mesh for the inserts on the seats. 2004 - current it's beige super suede bolsters with beige mesh inserts on the seats. The upper portion of the dash which was black stayed the same, but the lower parts were grey were changed to beige. They also changed some little accent colors around, buttons are a bit more silver. I saw a picture in a Honda accessory booklet at a dealership that showed the AC vents with the grey changed to beige also, but this wasn't the case on the 2004 I saw in real life.

I think a significant change is the seat bolster material. I found the fabric on the older ones tends to fray easily. I'm thinking the super suede might hold up longer.

Haha, no worries. Guess my 21 year old eyes just pick up colors a little better. Just wanted to make sure no one gets the impression the two interiors are almost the same. If nothing else the 04 and newer have IMHO nicer materials.

Just give me another month or so to save up and I'll show you guys a real interior.
