I purchased a Red 01 Insight 4/16/01, the only problem I have bad was the wheels, a month after I had the car I was returning from work, and ran over a 2*4 in the road. I looked the car all over as soon as I got home and Nothing. I went to my first service told the dealer what had happened, and they discovered that the wheel was craked. Now I did not expect Honda to replace the wheel for me, but the replacement cost was close to 400.00 per wheel. Way to much, so I went on filling the tire with air and trying to locate another wheel cheaper. About six months ago I went to work a diferent way and hit a pot hole, this time putting a flatspot on the outside of another rim. Well I sure was not going to pay 800.00 for two rims so I went to Ebay and bought a set of honda civic wheels 5 spoke, they look great , but each wheel weighs twice what the stock wheel does. And I lost 5 mpg around town. I believe that the wheels are to soft. But The car is great. when the car was new I got 70 mpg easy I once got 80 on a one way trip, now the best is low 60's and that is pretty hard.

And...you want sympathy?

<gruffoldmanvoice>

Sympathy you say? BAH! you'll get no such pity from me! Bah! Grmhmbmhmbnmhrnm.

Man, I hope that when I get my Insight I don't have any problems like that. We have potholes that are 4" deep here.

The PUC (public utilities commission) tries to repair them, but the buses drive over the tar when it's still hot and rip it right back out. They can't disrupt the bus routes in a university town, so the PUC is kindof at a loss (no detours).

Well, I'll move soon enough. Probably just after I get the car.

Do you mean that you think the stock aluminum wheels are too soft, or that the tires you are using now are too soft?

If you watch eBay, you'll find replacement stock wheels. If nothing else just email whoever wins the auctions for scrap Insights and offer to buy two wheels.

Hopefully there will eventually be a place to post Insight parts & related items for sale on these boards.

It's rotten luck, though. Didn't you have insurance?

You might check around some places that make after market crash parts. I recall seeing remanufactured Insight wheels in a catalog somewhere for less than a real Honda wheel.
