Hi Dan:
****. I’ll miss you. You’ll have to stop by and pick a bone from time to time.
(Oops. Almost lost my cool there) I mean:
Yeah, turncoat! Well you just go pester some other forum.
___Where did that tirade come from?
___The Honda Fit is an ~ 2,100 # 4 cylinder - 5 door hatch back that is supposed to be PZEV/SULEV rated. It is supposed to cost in the neighborhood of $13,000 - $15,000 (TCO of maybe $0.33 /mile). Will it achieve 100 - 110 mpg out on the highway? Not a snowballs chance in hell but it might achieve 60 (EPA rated for 46 - 47mpg possibly?) with a city EPA rating of possibly 40? When you go from 192 miles per day to just 15, you really don’t need 2 cars that achieve 105 and 50 mpg out on the highway respectively and the 2 insurance payments that go along with it.
___And what is the problem with a
used PZEV based 03 Accord or PZEV based 03 Focus? We are speaking of $16 - $17K for an 03 Accord EX-L w/ < 50K on the odometer (TCO of maybe $0.30/mile?) and maybe $9K for a loaded up ZX5 out of California by early next spring. I suspect I won’t have but a 15 mile commute so fuel economy won’t mean nearly as much as emissions under that circumstance. The Insight is my pure highway commuter right now.
I pity the dude that gets your old ride, watching that lmpg fall…You’ll have to teach him how to reset it.
___I wouldn’t pity anyone purchasing an Insight as well cared for as the “Little Red Beauty” knowing she has received the best TLC I could provide. With its high lmpg, 2.6 quarts of Mobil1 0W-20 and new Supertech filter every month and a half, no recals ever, all Honda updates and services performed, and a 7 yr./100,000 mile warranty that goes with it, what do you think?
___Finally, what is your problem with my mileage given my lmpg came about with a mileage weighted temperature of 44 degrees F to date (41 degree F straight average)? I just received a > 100 mpg segment to work not 2 weeks ago when it was a balmy 47 degrees here near Chicago. My big concern is when we get our highly oxygenated winter blend regular unleaded after October 1. I can almost feel the 5 mpg drop right now

As it is, my Insight has been driven extremely gently given the “Driving with load” technique and her slower then most (never exceed the speed limits) - all highway commute. 105 mpg average over the entire summer should speak volumes as well as its 90.2 lmpg which includes Chicago’s very cold winter last year included in that lmpg.
___As for Greenhybrid, are you going to post your Insight’s tank over tank in their “Real Hybrid Mileage Database” anytime soon? There are very few Insight’s in our group and we could always use a few more.
