This may have to do with the fact that it is a Citrus Yellow which is a rare color. My 2000 in Silver only has 24000 miles on it but I doubt I could get $12K for it.

Hi Justin Gray:

___My asking price just went up! Good god did that guy do well on the sale of his Insight. 58,000 + miles and 55.4 lmpg with a manual? He most certainly wasn’t as gentle on the car as he could have been, that is for sure.

___Good Luck

I think 12,500 is a little high.. . but the car was easily worth 11 grand in any other color... watch some other ebay auction... they are all selling for that!

Hi Dan:

___Yes, it appears as if work will be moving a lot closer to me … possibly? The upcoming Fit or City are on my short list with a used 03 Accord EX-L, a used PZEV Focus ZX5, or maybe I will just keep the Corolla LE for the much shorter commutes.

This thread is interesting because in the issue of Popular Science that came yesterday (OK, stop snickering, I like to read about the future of flying cars, all right?) They mention that Hybrids have not held their resale value well… What do they know?

They also describe the “ultimate green machine”. Our cars have most all the features they mention except plastic windows and the fuel cell: http://www.popsci.com/popsci/futurecar/ ... -5,00.html

Xcel- You’re going to buy a NEW car? What has happened to cost/benefit/supper efficient/life-of-the-vehicle/spreadsheet oriented xcel we all know?!?!? Whatever it turns out to be you know you’re going to want to modify it.

You just know that you can’t keep up your lmpg without that commute, and you’ll hate to see it fall, what with winter coming and all.

****. I’ll miss you. You’ll have to stop by and pick a bone from time to time.

(Oops. Almost lost my cool there) I mean:

Yeah, turncoat! Well you just go pester some other forum. I noticed you are a regular over at GreenHybrid.com. More space for the rest of us. I pity the dude that gets your old ride, watching that lmpg fall…You’ll have to teach him how to reset it.

Ah yes, when I was a kid I sold my electric train set to my cousin for 35 bucks. It would be worth a fortune now. At the time it seemed like a good move as I wasn't using it.

Then too my brother and I both wonder what life would have been like if my dad had actually bought that red 60s Corvette he wanted.

That Insight is probably a bigger part of your life experience than you realize. Call me sentimental, but some of the best things in life don't make sense on a spread sheet.

___Where did that tirade come from?

___The Honda Fit is an ~ 2,100 # 4 cylinder - 5 door hatch back that is supposed to be PZEV/SULEV rated. It is supposed to cost in the neighborhood of $13,000 - $15,000 (TCO of maybe $0.33 /mile). Will it achieve 100 - 110 mpg out on the highway? Not a snowballs chance in hell but it might achieve 60 (EPA rated for 46 - 47mpg possibly?) with a city EPA rating of possibly 40? When you go from 192 miles per day to just 15, you really don’t need 2 cars that achieve 105 and 50 mpg out on the highway respectively and the 2 insurance payments that go along with it.

___And what is the problem with a used PZEV based 03 Accord or PZEV based 03 Focus? We are speaking of $16 - $17K for an 03 Accord EX-L w/ < 50K on the odometer (TCO of maybe $0.30/mile?) and maybe $9K for a loaded up ZX5 out of California by early next spring. I suspect I won’t have but a 15 mile commute so fuel economy won’t mean nearly as much as emissions under that circumstance. The Insight is my pure highway commuter right now.

I pity the dude that gets your old ride, watching that lmpg fall…You’ll have to teach him how to reset it.

___I wouldn’t pity anyone purchasing an Insight as well cared for as the “Little Red Beauty” knowing she has received the best TLC I could provide. With its high lmpg, 2.6 quarts of Mobil1 0W-20 and new Supertech filter every month and a half, no recals ever, all Honda updates and services performed, and a 7 yr./100,000 mile warranty that goes with it, what do you think?

___Finally, what is your problem with my mileage given my lmpg came about with a mileage weighted temperature of 44 degrees F to date (41 degree F straight average)? I just received a > 100 mpg segment to work not 2 weeks ago when it was a balmy 47 degrees here near Chicago. My big concern is when we get our highly oxygenated winter blend regular unleaded after October 1. I can almost feel the 5 mpg drop right now :( As it is, my Insight has been driven extremely gently given the “Driving with load” technique and her slower then most (never exceed the speed limits) - all highway commute. 105 mpg average over the entire summer should speak volumes as well as its 90.2 lmpg which includes Chicago’s very cold winter last year included in that lmpg.

___As for Greenhybrid, are you going to post your Insight’s tank over tank in their “Real Hybrid Mileage Database” anytime soon? There are very few Insight’s in our group and we could always use a few more.

I'll get around to it in a while. I'm not too anxious to bring down the fleet average.

Hi James:

___I already have one of those but when it gets cold, nobody rides them around the Chicago area for some reason? I wonder why ;)

___Dan, I saw your first post over at Greenhybrid last night. Don’t worry about bringing down the fleet average as the database is meant to show real world fuel economy and not just Rick’s and my Hypermileage tank over tank numbers skewing the results.

___For all the other Insighter’s here, this is what we are speaking of …
