Your Worst Insight MPG

It seems to be strange to open up a thread of the worst milage on an Insight, but keep in mind that for a lot of people it could be great mpg.

My worst ever mpg was on December 15, 2000 when work was closed early so people could go home before the roads iced up. It was not soon enough. I was going 30-40 mph the first 30 minutes. After that, the ice and sleet turned all the roads into a stop-an-go parking lot going at 2-3 mph. The rest of the trip was four hours. Over 30 miles, I got 25 mpg. The defroster prevented autostop from working.

I think my worst mileage ever was going from Phoenix to Tuscon. I was moving too as fast as I could in 5th without using any assist. I think I must have averaged 85mph if not closer to 90. AC was on econ the whole way set to about 78 with the fan manually set and it was very hot out and I don't recall feeling the compressor cycle off very much. I still got about 48mpg for that trip. I guess I whine a little about the extreme heat being a mileage killer when in fact I guess the extreme cold it worse.

All cars do worse in the winter. The good news happens in the spring when gas mileage goes steadily up. :)

We get quite the opposite here in the southern US. When the air conditioning shuts off mileage goes up.
