Hi, yesterday my check engine light went on and said check emission system and we took it to auto zone and checked the computer and it said low oil. He checked my oil and it was barely registering on the stick. My oil life was at 30% still. He put in 2qts to be safe. I was googling and found that the this is a common problem with the 2012 models. Has anyone else experienced this and what was the outcome? I am still under warranty and at just under 60k miles. Many of the people said their cars ended up needing a good portion of the engines rebuilt. I'm feeling a little pissed off here, first new car ever and it's a lemon?! Thanks for any insight into my problem!

You need to go to the dealer and have them do a oil consumption test.
Being down a qt at 30% would mean you been about 7-8 thousand miles since your last oil change. Do you know if the engine was filled at the last oil change?
Typically the dip stick measures 1 qt. So if its just touching the bottom of the dip stick you are a qt low. You need at least a qt to fill the passages in the engine and most of it was likely still in there if you just stopped the engine to check it.
Yes, the later gen 2s have oil consumption issues, but yours sounds minor considering the miles on the car and the last oil change.

I use to check the fluid before a long trip or commute. Since the insight seems to not use or leak anything Ive slacked off. I do check my tire psi monthly.
Now my other 2 cars I do check stuff and hook the battery up to a charger the night before I want to drive it to ensure its topped off. I dont drive either that much.
