In my opinion the G1 is so similar to the CRX inside and outside that it is the successor. And the
G1 has slightly better Cd than the CRX. I have never sat in a Del Sol.

When I got into the first Insight I drove, I quikly realized it was very similar to my CRX-HF. I closed my eyes and reached out to the gearshift, emergency brake, radio etc etc and everything was very similar to my CRX. The MT gear ratios and weight are similar (with the CRX-HF having slightly higher ratios [mph/1k rpm in top gear] )

The differences are, the Insight is smaller than the CRX when you are sitting in it. My knees are closer to the dash, it's possible for me to get my clutch shoe jammed between the pedal and the steering column etc!

One big disadvantage for me, between the two cars is the Insight has slightly more glass area towards the rear (for backing up) but much -less- usable rear view for backing up compared to the CRX. It seems the Insight 1/4 panel windows are smaller and not positioned towards the rear of the car far enough. I very seldom try to back into parking places with my Insight.

The main difference is, I get ~50% more mpg (78 vs 51 mpg) between the two cars over the same route to where I last worked (37 miles round trip in urban rush hour traffic).

I sure wish I had the Insight when I was working.

Wow those observations are spot on. Like Dustin said in the video - he owns the citrus - it seems the CRX Si became the CRZ while the CRX HF become the G1 Insight.

The Del Sol is the oddest man (woman?) out here. I've driven several. Nothing like the CRX or Insight much at all. It's super old school Honda for sure, little and simple, feels like a Civic that went through a remodel (which it is). But it's just so heavy I couldn't like the car. Found a great deal on a VTEC a few months ago that I could have added to my stable but the car just didn't excite me. Just too spoiled by CRX and G1.

 

G2 NSX is a manual hybrid as well.

 

im very new to insight driving but back in the early 2000's i had a crx hf and the two cars are very similar, i pulled 50 mpg tanks in my hf pretending it was a racecar lol. they had similar looks and terrible acceleration. i eventually burned the clutch up in the crx and that was its demise. too rusty to fix and nearly 400k on the odometer. it did its job. the funniest thing i can remember about my hf was trying to fit 5 people in it and close the doors. another funny memory was the day my cousin and i took it out for a top speed test. it reached about 103mph in third gear and just hung there, i put it in fourth gear and it settled down to 87 and fifth gear would only hold 76 mph lol. forgot to check lugnuts one time after a long day of axle swapping and grenaded the plastic front fender when the wheel flew off. so many good memories.

Iv owned two CRX's first gen and second, iv also owned a Del-Sol in fact was my daily driver before the G-1 and had it for a decade,
Iv never owned a CR-Z but have to say at least going by appearances it's the successor to the CRX, it's a flaired out version but much more the same basic shape,,,

as far as function, I do not think the G-1 or CR-Z falls into the CRX category at all, in fact the G-1 and
CR-Z are the ones cut from the same cloth just don't look anything like each other,,,

function wise it's actually the Del-Sol that falls into the same category as the CRX, and you have to keep in mind the only two seater that immediately followed the CRX, so because it filled the same nitche i will always look at it as the CRX's successor, but they look nothing like each other and in fact the Del-Sol is a "wind pig" --- actually has the same drag coefficient as a crown vic... --- .035



as much ponies as I had in the Del-slow I think my current G-1 could give it a run for top speed due to how slippery it is...

I think the CR-Z is sexy as all get out --- but it's a fuel hog, does better than my SI Del-Sol but also even outweighs it and like someone already mentioned the Del-slow was a beefcake.... so the CR-Z is not for me.. one pretty wrapper though...
