Anyone replace the window motor, pulley and cable assembly?

Last week when rolling up the passenger window I heard a loud POP. Then I could not roll up the window. It actually dropped inside the door too. Anyway I finally got around to taking the door panel off and found that the steel cable snapped. Also the motor sounds like its grinding on something.

I think I will need a new motor and cable assembly. The way its mounted in there it looks like a lot of work to replace. I think I will let the dealership try to repair it if it does not cost too much.

I was just wondering if anyone here has had to replace any of this before and if so did you do it yourself? If you did it yourself was it hard?

I have no replaced it, but let me know what you find out. I had an instance last week where my passenger window did not want to roll up all the way. I had to help push it up while using the switch to make it go up then it stuck. It hasn't happened again (yet) but I see it totally breaking in the future a definite possibility.

I replaced mine recently. It is a fairly easy job, IF the power motor
and window regulator are working properly. Normally you would unbolt the glass from the regulator first. You do this by lowering the glass part way, until the two bolts (10mm) holding the glass can be accessed through two holes in the inside of the door.

But if the window glass can not be lowered, then you can not reach the two bolts holding the glass. I had to unbolt the motor and regulator and let the assembly drop about 1 or 2 inches. I then drilled a hole in the door (about 7/8" using a small hole saw bit) where I could unbolt the glass. Once I got the new (used actually) motor and regulator in, I could use the power window switch to move the regulator to the proper place to bolt the glass back in.

It actually ended up being easier to repair than I thought it would be.

I ended up replacing the unit today. Yes it was easier than I thought it would be. Its just a little messy dealing with the grease and the sticky stuff they but on the plastic cover.

Now I can start driving my Insight more again. :D
