2001 MT, 252k. On the freeway, going uphill in 3rd, battery charging green 3 bars. Offramp, get off, put in clutch, roll to stop. When the light changes, only shows about 5 bars on the battery, when it should have been full or close. Go around the corner, suddenly the IMA and check engine light come on, battery now shows full. No boost. Drove home. At one point, braking sounded metallic like a worn out pad.
Haven't put a reader on it yet. I've never had a problem like this before.
Thoughts?

Thanks, I will get the blink codes. Battery was replaced in '17, couple of years before I bought it. I'll look for the paperwork- pretty sure it wasn't Bumblebee. I've had zero battery problems until this. This isn't a daily driver, but I do take it out regularly. Like I said, recently took it on a 2,500 mile trip. Serviced by Scott. I'm a car collector, do most of my own work, but there's a big diff between this space ship and my '72 GMC.

you can pull the pink 30A fuse for Reinitialization in the engine bay fuse box for 30 sec and reinstall. It'll make it go away for a good amount of time. But if its getting to the point where the battery needs balancing, it'll need a grid charge to get it back to where it needs to be.

1449 Is the code of death. This isn't a balance issue, it's a capacity one. The cells have work down and need replacement.

After owning dozens of insights and dealing with many P1449's, I have never had one make a recovery after a grid charge/fuse pull. They may work for a week or a month, but the code comes back soon. Having to grid charge monthly is not an acceptable solution.

Did the paperclip test between 9 & 4- code comes up 78. Bought a grid charger online- will report back. Pulled the 30A fuse- IMA light out, showing no charge on battery. I'll drive it a bit.
Drive- showed a charge bar within a block, three within a mile. Got on the freeway driving in 3rd at around 60Mph, three green bars for a mile or so, then the battery quickly topped up. Exited the freeway, did a few strong pulls from stoplight. All seems fine!
Thank you all! I'm betting my battery is waning; my insight is just a toy to me. We shall see.
