On my way home today I lost all IMA fuctions and both the IMA light and Check engine light are on. I pulled codes and all I got was the P1448. I have searched all over and had no luck with this code. I have been having recals for the past year since I bought the car and figured that with the heat starting up again that the battery's days were numbered. I will be taking it by the dealer tomorrow to see what they can do. I have 136K miles and it is a 2001 so i should be ok for battery failure but I have had no luck finding this code. Any help would be great!

I found those but sadly the nhtsa seems to lack details of any sort. I did find an obscure .pdf that refered P1448 to the dreaded(loved if you are in warrany) code of death. however one obscure statement does not prove anything. I will post tomorrow when I get whatever news I shall get.

I can't find anything about it, but it smack between P1447 (battery degradation) and P1449 (battery overheat), so it is likely to be an issue with the performance of the battery sub-modules and not an electrical problem.

Reset your IMA (pull the 4th fuse from the left on the bottom row by the driver left shin for 20 seconds) and see if it comes back eventually, and perhaps this time with a P1449 error also.

Don't despair. It's fixable.

I am certainly not in despair. As an electronics technician I know that almost anything can be repaired. I will reset if the dealer cant help (replace pack) with this code. It was hot out so I am sure that heat played a role here. Hopefully the dealer can at the very least tell me exactly what this code means so I can post it here for others to find.

Sounds like one of the battery subpacks is dodgy. And battery needs sorting. I can help with this as I have two spares, but not for at least three weeks as I'm away on hols.
I offer the same sort of service in the UK that Ron of Hybrid-Battery-Repair offers in the US.

I suggest reset code and see if it re-appears to start with.

How is/was the battery performance before the code?

I've found the docs on the P1448 (63).

On a 2000-2004, a P1448 may light if the inlet duct (behind the seat) or the exhaust duct (the area around the spare tire) are blocked. If they are not blocked, then a battery fan test should be performed. If the fan works, the battery needs to be rebuilt.
