Hello All,

I'm planning to purchase a 2010 Insight EX with Nav under the government 'Cash for Clunkers' program and just have a couple of questions?

Does anyone know why it is better to buy from the internet sales person vs the in store sales person?

Also, I'm located in Northern CA. and am wondering what is the best out the door price I can purchase this car for?

Thanks in advance.

If you are credit union member, try the in house broker/fleet sales...I saved a lot of time and money telling him what I wanted and let him fight the war..

Others used a little email psychology and got good deals as well....search the forums here for those tips

I believe the principle is that it's easier to deal and haggle with someone when you're not face-to-face and dealing with charisma or personality pressures.

I know that I cave every time I talk to a sales person. I wish I had negotiated mine either over e-mail or not even at the dealer as mentioned above -I would have probably gotten better financing from my own credit union, too. I'm just too nice a guy... :)

The way it works is that I bring in my 'clunker' and the dealer applies the goverment voucher towards the purchase price so that it does not come out of my pocket and the dealer will get reimbursed. I have a '93 Nissan Pathfinder which gets combined 17mpg. If I purchase a 'new' car that gets at least 10mpg more than my Pathfinder, I should be eligible for the full $4500 voucher.

The dealer will then proceed with the destruction of my Pathfinder to keep from getting on the road again. Does this answer your question?

Yes...though I never considered that a 1993 Pathfinder would be classed that way...still, i guess it is the mileage.

Well, good deal for you then, and the dealer helps!! Great! My buddy has a 1970s F100 which I think gets 12MPG...

Internet sales people know that another dealer is just a quick e-mail away, and all the research in the world is at your fingertips, so they'd better be nicer and more generous than the next guy.

In store sales people know that another dealer is a 10-60 minute drive away, it's going to cost you time and gas and aggravation, and any research you need to find out prices is out of reach, so they only have to be nice and generous enough so you don't walk out the door. Which usually isn't that nice or that generous at all.
