new interior carpet floor?

Hi fellow Insight enthusiasts, after a silverstone metallic ZE1, I now own my dreamcar: a 2000 citrus yellow ZE1, originally sold in Germany.

The car is in good shape mechanically at first glance, unfortunately the previous long term owner was not the most clean person.
I started taking of the seat covers and putting them in the clothes washer, looking better already, at what temperature do you guys wash them and do you dry tumble or not?

Also the previous owner did not use protective floor mats, causing the original grey carpet to be extremely dirty and even so worn that there are several holes. I am thinking of replacing the whole carpet floor, anybody done that before, are there kits available or did you buy fabric yourself and cut it to fit?

Thanks in advance for your comments.
Kind regards from Belgium
Sylvester

+1 on this. Looking to potentially recarpet the whole car post-IMA delete this summer.

Lots of salt and some stains embedded in the carpet. Not too bad but if I'll need carpet for the back why not.

Pretty sure there aren't any kits available for the G1 Insight (I may be wrong), so it would be a mostly DIY project.

I wonder if one could add some sound dampening during the carpet upgrade.

I've replaced the carpet in three different G1s... it's very time consuming if you're a purist (like me) and don't want to cut the OEM carpet... you end up having to take the airbags out, and a ton of wiring harnesses... it's about an 8 hour job start to finish... if you cut the carpet (hidden behind the shifter, but it'll make the carpet sag), then it only takes about 2 hours. Sadly, Honda has EOL'd the carpet, so you'll end up having to buy a used carpet from someone or find NOS parts.

I am not a purist when it comes to cosmetics. I feel they can almost always be improved on. My carpet in my 05 was trashed, holes and wear. I went to my local carpet remnant store and got some beige plush residential carpet. I cut pieces for, drivers, passengers, and cargo area. Covered as much interior floor as possible, up under seats too. Much brighter, cleaner, cushier and quieter than original. Took me a couple hours and the scraps cost about $40. My rear hatch decals looked ratty. I removed them and the car looks way better without them.

Whats a "dasy". I found the "pea-tunias" in my car, but can't locate the "dasy"?
