Wanted-rear hatch latch and assorted parts

I just bought a 2000 Insight that the hatch would not open. It wouldn't open with the button(whirring sound) or the key. So I needed to do a little surgery on it. I'm looking for a latch assembly and also the u shaped piece that attaches to the hatch that engages into the latch. It would be nice to replace the plastic trim cover also. Thanks.

I have the u shaped piece that attaches to the hatch for $15 shipped. Do you need the trim cover on the hatch or down on the body?

Could you include the small piece of trim that covers the lower latch assembly for the $15?

Before you replace the latch you should check the electrical connection to the rear hatch. The plug for the hatch is located near the passenger side seat belt assy. The plug is light blue in color and it is common for the electrical terminals to corrode and the hatch latch to quit working, also the rear defroster may not work properly.

This is exactly what was wrong with mine when my hatch would only open from the key.

No sound at all when pressing the button.

Rotted terminal near passenger seat belt.
