Hi,

Tomorrow I am checking out a cheap insight. 2001 MT with 300k miles for 3,000$ OBO. He states that the hybrid battery has been recently replaced by honda, also the brakes and rotors. He also claims it has been fully inspected, checks out fine and runs like a top.

One thing he told me was: "The check engine light is on, and the SRS light is on, but Honda says they come on after certain miles."

Sound like a lemon? I am going to see it tomorrow.

What O2 sensor did you install?

Hmm. That's kinda what I figured.

I dunno, that's odd? I would go ahead and verify by putting your old one back in..

If it fixes it.. umm, I dunno. That O2 sensor should work fine.

Does your car have 2 or 3 O2 sensors?

I wonder if the O2 sensor you installed is damaged or something? The NTK 24301 *IS* the correct part for an 01 Insight....

Digging through the search I found: Air/Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor (Sensor 1) No Activity Detected.

Is this the same as the O2 sensor?

I learned that my mechanic tried dropping the exhaust after the cat when he changed the rear mount. When he used his air tools to turn the rusty spring bolt, it broke, and he had to drill it out and replace it.

I had my hand down there where the bottom of the 1st cat and the exhaust meet and I think I felt a leak... Could this explain anything?? I'll need to get my gf to rev it up in neutral while I hold my hand there to know for sure.

Yes, that's the same thing. The first sensor is the AFR sensor.

A bad exhaust leak could cause strange behavior, sure.. the car would sound like a Harley if it was bad enough to affect the 1st O2 sensor though, I think. Worth investigating.

He probably didn't replace the donut gasket...

I know it may seem silly, but make sure the connector is mating up correctly and is fully seated..

Could be normal, depending on the context.. you definitely shouldn't be getting P0134 errors with a brand new O2 sensor though....

Don't forget...After resetting the battery, you will have to go through several "drive cycles" for the ECU to "relearn".
HTH
